Chuck Greer has worked in the Exploration and Development side of the oilfield for over 49 years both with major and large oil operating and service companies, including Chevron and Schlumberger. Chuck has been an industry recognized leader in NORM, well abandonment, facility decommissioning, remediation and site restoration. Over the last 3 years, Chuck has been an Advisor and SME for several organizations with State, Federal and Tribal Orphan Well Grant applications and implementation.
Some of his accomplishments have been:
• Technical Advisor and SME for multiple Tribal Orphan Well Development and Implementation Grant applications.
• Technical Advisor and SME for Contractor selected for abandoning 297 State and USFW Orphan Wells in Louisiana under DOI Orphan Well Phase 1 Grant Program.
• Managed Final Closure of three major fields in Louisiana for a major oil company including over 300 well sites, dozens of facilities, over 100 miles of flowlines, 100+ pit closures and numerous NORM sites.
• Introduced numerous new technologies and strategies for abandonment issues including:
- LDEQ approved NORM Field Screening for Ra-226 activity in soil and water
- “Surgical” remediation techniques
- Pit closure technologies in swamp/coastal environments
- One trip perf and squeeze cement plug with Gator Tool,
- Computer Processes and KPIs to identify Priority Wells for Abandonment, Improve Efficiency, Evaluate Vendors and Reduce Costs.
- Remediation of NORM impacts on water bottoms
• Team Lead responsible for abandonment and closure of over 800 wells in TX, LA, CO, NM, PA for Major Oil Company over a 4-year period.
• Awarded Chevron Corporate Mentor of the Year in 2017.
