Speaker Bio
Dr. Fabio Ciulla is a postdoctoral research fellow in the Climate and Ecosystem Division at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. He earned his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Physics from the University of Rome La Sapienza, where he specialized in numerical modeling of liquid systems governed by short-range attraction potentials. Dr. Ciulla completed his Ph.D. at Northeastern University in Boston, focusing on nonlinear dynamics of diffusive phenomena, including the spread of epidemics in human populations and the dissemination of topics on social media networks. His research extensively utilized network science to characterize large-scale human interaction dynamics.
After completing his Ph.D., Dr. Ciulla worked in the private sector as a scientist, where he focused on generating semantic networks from large text corpora. At Berkeley Lab, his research involves developing data-driven models to predict water quality impacts resulting from disturbances such as floods and droughts. Additionally, Dr. Ciulla creates workflows leveraging state-of-the-art machine learning algorithms to detect undocumented legacy oil and gas wells across the United States.
